FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions people ask most.
How do I count words in a text online?
Paste or type your text into the Word Counter. It instantly shows the number of words, characters, lines and sentences, plus an estimated reading time, and updates live as you edit — no button to press.
How do I count characters, with or without spaces?
Use the Character Counter. It shows the total number of characters, checks your text against a limit you set (handy for tweets, SMS and meta descriptions), and also reports byte size and how often each character appears.
How do I convert text to uppercase, lowercase or title case?
Use the Case Converter: paste your text and pick UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case or Sentence case. It also converts to programming cases such as camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case.
How can I remove duplicate lines from a list?
Paste the list into Remove Duplicate Lines. It keeps the first occurrence of each line, removes the repeats, and tells you how many duplicates were removed. To also put the list in order, run the result through the Line Sorter.
How do I remove extra spaces and line breaks from text?
Paste it into Remove Extra Spaces. It collapses repeated spaces, trims the start and end of every line and tidies up stray line breaks — useful for text copied from PDFs, emails or web pages.
How do I compare two texts to find the differences?
Open Text Compare and paste the original version on one side and the new version on the other. It highlights, line by line, what was added, removed or changed between the two.
Can I check how easy my writing is to read?
Yes. The Readability Checker calculates your Flesch reading ease score and grade level, so you can tell whether a piece of writing suits its audience.
Are these text tools free? Do I need to sign up?
All 32 text tools are completely free, with no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use them or how much text you paste. They work in any modern browser on phone, tablet and desktop.
Is the text I paste kept private?
Yes — the text tools process everything in your browser, so what you type or paste isn't uploaded to Toolapt. The two things to be aware of are the speech tools: Speech to Text uses your browser's built-in speech recognition, which in some browsers (such as Chrome) sends the audio to the browser maker's speech service, and Text to Speech's online voices (like Chrome's "Google" voices) send the text the same way — voices installed on your system stay on your device.
