FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about the Speech to Text.

What does Speech to Text do?

It listens through your microphone and transcribes what you say into text, live, using your browser's built-in speech recognition.

Is Speech to Text free to use?

Yes. It's free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.

Is my voice recording sent to this site or stored anywhere?

Toolapt never receives or stores your audio — it goes to your browser's built-in speech recognition engine instead. Be aware that in Chrome and other Chrome-based browsers that engine sends the audio to Google's speech service to transcribe it, so it isn't processed purely on your device.

Which browsers work best with Speech to Text?

Chrome-based browsers (Chrome, Edge and similar) currently offer the strongest built-in speech recognition support. Some browsers may not support it at all.

Do I need to grant microphone permission?

Yes. Your browser will ask for microphone access the first time you click "Start listening" — you need to allow it for the tool to hear you.

Can I edit the transcript after it's generated?

Yes. The transcript box is a normal editable text field, so you can fix any misheard words directly.

Can I keep adding to the same transcript?

Yes. Clicking "Start listening" again after stopping appends new speech to whatever is already in the transcript box.

Does Speech to Text have any limitations?

Recognition accuracy depends on your browser, microphone quality, accent and background noise, and some browsers don't support speech recognition at all.
