About the SVG to GIF Converter

Turn SVG vector graphics — logos, icons, illustrations and diagrams — into GIF images. Transparent backgrounds stay transparent, and the SVG is drawn fresh at full size so edges stay sharp.

An SVG isn't made of pixels; it's a set of shapes that can be drawn at any size. To make a GIF, those shapes have to be drawn onto a fixed grid of pixels. If the SVG sets its own width and height, it's drawn at that size. If it only has a viewBox, as most icon and logo exports do, it's drawn with its longest side at 1024 pixels, keeping its proportions, so it stays crisp. Flat vector colours fit GIF's 256-colour limit well, so logos and icons usually convert without visible change. Transparent areas stay clear, though the anti-aliased edges of shapes are snapped to clear or solid because GIF has no partial transparency; add a solid background shape to the SVG if you want perfectly smooth edges. SVG animations and scripts aren't run, so the GIF is a still image.

Logos for places that don't take SVG

Email signatures, forums and many upload forms reject SVG, but accept the same logo as a GIF.

Icons for older software

Developers turn SVG icons into GIFs for older apps and documentation tools that only read bitmap images.

Diagrams in documents

A diagram exported as SVG converts to GIF for wikis and editors that can't embed vector files.

Safe image sharing

Converting to GIF removes any scripts or links inside an SVG, leaving only the picture.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about the SVG to GIF Converter.

How do I convert SVG to GIF?

Add your SVG files above, click "Convert to GIF" and download the results. By default each SVG is drawn at its own size with its transparent background kept.

What size will the GIF be?

If the SVG has width and height set in pixels, the GIF uses that size. If it only has a viewBox, or sizes in percent, the longest side is drawn at 1024 pixels. With neither, the browser's default 300×150 is used.

Does SVG to GIF keep transparency?

Yes. Areas with nothing drawn stay clear in the GIF. The soft anti-aliased edges of shapes are snapped to clear or solid, because GIF can't store half-transparent pixels.

Why do the edges of my logo look slightly jagged?

That's GIF's on-or-off transparency: each edge pixel ends up clear or solid. Adding a solid background shape to the SVG before converting blends the edges smoothly.

Will gradients in my SVG look right?

Simple fills look exact. Smooth gradients have to fit into 256 colours, so they can show bands.

Are SVG animations converted?

No. The SVG is drawn once as a still image, so CSS or SMIL animations and scripts don't run.

Why didn't my SVG's text show up correctly?

If the SVG uses a font that isn't installed on your device or embedded in the file, the browser substitutes another font. Converting the text to outlines in your design tool before exporting avoids this.

Can I convert many SVG files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like; each gets its own Download button.

Is my SVG uploaded?

No. The SVG is drawn and encoded to GIF in your browser, so your file stays on your device.
