About
Converts PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, ICO or SVG images into GIF files. Drop in one picture or a whole batch and download each GIF on its own.
GIF is one of the oldest image formats on the web and still one of the most widely accepted — forums, email clients, old CMS uploaders and chat apps that refuse WebP or HEIC almost always take a GIF. The format has two hard limits this converter works within: a GIF holds at most 256 colours, so photos are reduced to the best 256-colour palette for that picture, and transparency is on or off per pixel, so soft edges become either fully clear or fully solid. That makes GIF a great fit for logos, icons, screenshots and simple graphics, and a weaker one for detailed photos, where JPG or WebP stay smaller and smoother. To build an animation from several pictures, use the GIF Maker instead. It's one of many free image tools on Toolapt — no sign-up, no watermark and no limit.

A 1280×720 screenshot.webp converts to screenshot.gif at the same size — flat interface colours fit GIF's 256-colour palette well.
FAQ
Quick answers to common questions about the GIF Converter.
Upload the image, click "Convert to GIF" and download the result. There are no settings to change — the GIF keeps the original size and transparency.
PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF, BMP, ICO and SVG. HEIC and TIFF are decoded by a small library that loads from this site the first time you use one; the rest are read by your browser directly.
Yes. Add as many images as you like — they're converted one after another and each GIF gets its own Download button.
Yes. GIF only supports fully clear or fully solid pixels, so pixels more than half transparent become clear and the rest solid. A soft shadow or feathered edge therefore turns hard.
A GIF can hold only 256 colours, while a photo has thousands, so smooth gradients like skies can break into visible bands. For detailed photos, JPG or WebP are usually the better format.
GIF's compression is built for flat colours, not photos, so a photo saved as GIF is often several times larger than the JPG. Shrinking the picture first with the Image Resizer cuts the GIF's file size a lot.
This converter makes a still GIF, so it uses the first frame of an animated image and the first page of a multi-page TIFF or HEIC. To make an animated GIF from several images, use the GIF Maker.
An SVG with its own width and height is drawn at that size. One without a set size is drawn at 1024 pixels on its longest side, following its viewBox.
No. Every image is decoded and encoded to GIF in your browser, so nothing leaves your device.
Not with this tool — it only creates GIFs. Use the Image Converter to turn an image into PNG, JPG or WebP, or the GIF Splitter to save every frame of an animated GIF as a PNG.
