About
Change JPG or JPEG photos into GIF files. Add one picture or a batch, and each GIF keeps the photo's full size and gets its own Download button.
JPG and JPEG are the same format with two spellings, and both work here. A JPG is built for photos: it stores millions of colours and squeezes the file with lossy compression. A GIF stores at most 256 colours with lossless compression designed for flat graphics, so converting a photo is a trade-off. The converter picks the 256 colours that best represent each picture, though smooth gradients can still show faint bands. Photos straight from a phone or camera are often 4000 pixels wide or more, and at that size a GIF gets large, so it's worth shrinking them first with the Image Resizer: 800 pixels on the longest side is plenty for a forum post or chat. A JPG has no transparency, so the GIF won't have any either. Nothing is uploaded — the whole conversion happens in your browser.

Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format with different file extensions, and this converter accepts both.
JPG compression is designed for photos, GIF compression for flat colours, so a photo saved as GIF is often several times larger. Shrinking the photo first with the Image Resizer reduces the file size a lot.
A little. A GIF holds 256 colours, so a photo's subtle shades are mapped to the closest of them, and smooth gradients can show faint bands.
Yes. The GIF has exactly the same width and height as the JPG. To make it smaller, shrink the photo first with the Image Resizer, then convert the result.
No. A JPG has no transparent pixels, so the GIF has none either. To cut out a background first, use the Background Remover, save the result as PNG, then convert that.
Yes. Add as many JPGs as you like and each one is converted with its own Download button.
Not here — this page makes one still GIF per photo. The GIF Maker combines several images into an animation with a delay and loop setting.
