About the Spanish Typing Speed Test

Type real Spanish passages using the Latin alphabet plus the letter ñ and Spanish's distinctive inverted opening punctuation marks (¿ ¡), and get your words-per-minute and accuracy the moment you finish. Pick easy, medium or hard passages to match your level.

Spanish speakers use it to check their speed before a job typing test, and learners of Spanish use it to get used to typing ñ, accents and the inverted ¿ and ¡ without slowing down.

Guide

Using the Spanish Typing Speed Test

  1. 1

    Step 1

Choose Easy, Medium or Hard — Hard is the level with ¿ and ¡ — then set no limit or a 1, 2 or 5 minute timer.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Click directly on the Spanish passage text and start typing — there's no separate text box.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Watch accents and the opening marks: a plain a for á, or a skipped ¿, turns red. The timer only starts with your first key.

  4. 4

    Step 4

When you finish or time runs out, read your Spanish WPM and accuracy, then load a new passage or save a certificate labelled with the level and "Spanish".

  • Real Spanish passages with ñ, accented vowels and inverted ¿ ¡ marks, typed exactly as a Spanish or US-International layout produces them
  • Accented letters must match exactly, so á and a count as different characters
  • Easy sentences like El gato duerme en el sofá todo el día. warm you up; Hard adds ¿ ¡, a $1,059.32 invoice and a phone number
  • A 1, 2 or 5 minute timer keeps loading new Spanish sentences, ideal for rehearsing a bilingual typing assessment
  • Pasting is blocked and every letter turns green or red as you type, so an n in place of ñ, or a missing accent, is flagged immediately

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about the Spanish Typing Speed Test.

What does the Spanish Typing Speed Test do?

It shows you a random Spanish passage — everyday lines on Easy, longer sentences on Medium and Hard ones with ¿ ¡, dates and prices — and reports your words per minute and accuracy when you finish or your timer runs out.

Do I type Spanish directly, with accents and ñ?

Yes — you type Spanish directly, in its own script, the same way you'd type any other language here, including ñ and the inverted ¿ ¡ punctuation marks where a passage uses them.

Why does Spanish use ¿ and ¡ at the start of sentences?

Spanish marks a question or exclamation at both ends of the sentence — an opening inverted mark (¿ or ¡) and the closing one (? or !) — which the harder passages here include, unlike English punctuation.

Do the Easy passages include ñ?

Yes. Everyday words such as mañana and niños appear from the Easy level on, so you practise ñ long before the Hard punctuation.

How do I type ñ, accents, ¿ and ¡ on my keyboard?

On a Spanish keyboard, ñ has its own key and accents use a dead key: press ´ and then the vowel. On a US keyboard, the US-International layout gives ' then a for á, ~ then n for ñ, AltGr + 1 for ¡ and AltGr + / for ¿.

Which number format do the Hard passages use?

The invoice amount is written $1,059.32, with a comma for thousands and a point for decimals, and times appear as 9:30 — type them exactly as shown.

Is my score gross or net WPM?

Gross. WPM counts every character you type, in five-character words per minute, and mistakes show up in your accuracy rather than lowering the WPM. A high WPM with low accuracy is a sign to slow down a little.

Which test length should I choose?

One minute is a quick check, two minutes gives a steadier average and five minutes shows how well you hold your speed. "No limit" lets you type the whole passage at your own pace instead.
