About the PDF to Word

Converts a PDF document into an editable Word (.docx) file — paragraphs, headings, font sizes and bold or italic text rebuilt from the PDF — right in your browser.

Office workers use it to turn a received PDF into an editable document they can update and resend, while students use it to convert a PDF handout into Word so they can annotate or reformat it. It's one of many free PDF tools on Toolapt, and like every tool here, it's free to use with no sign-up and no limit on how many times you run it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about the PDF to Word.

What does PDF to Word do?

It converts a PDF document into an editable Word (.docx) file, rebuilding paragraphs, headings and text formatting from the PDF's text.

Is PDF to Word free to use?

Yes. It's free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert.

Is my file safe when I use this tool?

Yes. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your PDF never leaves your device — nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by anyone.

Will the formatting come out exactly the same?

"Editable text" gives you the words with their sizes, bold and italic styling, centred headings and page breaks, as normal Word paragraphs you can edit — but not the exact positions, fonts, colours or pictures of the original. If you need the document to look identical, choose "Exact look", which puts each page in as an image (not editable).

What happens to tables?

Each table row becomes its own line, with the cells separated by tabs, so the content stays in order and is easy to turn back into a Word table (Insert → Table → Convert Text to Table). For data tables you want to calculate with, PDF to Excel is a better fit.

Can I convert a scanned PDF that's really just images?

Pages with no real text layer are added to the Word file as images. To get editable text from a scan, run it through OCR PDF first, then convert the result here.

Does PDF to Word have any limitations?

Multi-column layouts (like magazines) are read line by line across the columns, pictures inside text pages aren't carried over, and a password-protected PDF needs to be unlocked first with the Unlock PDF tool.
