About

About the SVG to ICO Converter

Convert an SVG logo or icon into an .ico file. An SVG is a vector with no fixed pixel size, so the converter draws it at 256 pixels on its longest side — the largest image an ICO can hold — which keeps it as sharp as possible.

ICO files hold pixels, not vectors, so an SVG always has to be drawn as an image first. The converter reads the SVG's viewBox (or its width and height if it has no viewBox) to get the right proportions, so a 2:1 logo becomes a 256×128 icon rather than being squeezed into a square, and anything without a fill stays transparent. Your browser does the drawing, so the SVG must be self-contained: external images, web fonts loaded from another site and scripts inside the SVG are not drawn — convert text to paths in your vector editor before exporting. To get favicon sizes like 16×16 and 32×32, use the Favicon Generator.

Small icon SVG

A 24×24 star.svg from an icon set is drawn at 256×256, so the icon stays sharp instead of being a blurry 24-pixel image.

logo.svg with viewBox="0 0 200 100" and no width or height becomes a 256×128 logo.ico — the 2:1 shape kept.

app.svg, set to 512×512, is drawn at 256×256 — the ICO limit — and saved as app.ico for a program or shortcut.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about the SVG to ICO Converter.

How do I convert SVG to ICO?

Upload the SVG above, click "Convert to ICO" and download the file. The vector is drawn at 256 pixels and saved as an .ico.

What size will the ICO be?

256 pixels on its longest side — the largest image an ICO can hold. A square SVG becomes 256×256; a 2:1 logo becomes 256×128.

My SVG has no width or height — will it work?

Yes. The converter reads the viewBox to get the proportions and sets the size itself. Only an SVG with neither a viewBox nor a width and height is treated as square.

Why is my SVG's text missing or in the wrong font?

The browser draws the SVG as an image, and images can't load web fonts or other files. Convert the text to outlines or paths in your vector editor before exporting the SVG.

Does SVG to ICO keep transparency?

Yes. Anything without a fill in the SVG stays transparent in the icon.

How do I make a 16×16 or 32×32 favicon from an SVG?

Use the Favicon Generator — it makes every favicon size, an Apple touch icon and a web manifest. This page converts the SVG to one sharp 256-pixel ICO.

Is my SVG uploaded?

No. The SVG is drawn by your own browser and the .ico is built on your device — nothing is sent to a server. It's free with no sign-up.
