Which barcode format should I use?

CODE128 handles almost any text or number and is the safest default; EAN-13/EAN-8/UPC are for standard retail product codes with a fixed digit count; CODE39, ITF-14, MSI and Pharmacode suit specific industrial or logistics uses.

Why does it say my value isn't valid for that format?

Formats like EAN-13 and UPC require an exact number of digits (often with a check digit), so a value that's too short, too long, or contains letters will be rejected — switch to CODE128 if you just need a flexible code.

Can I scan the barcode straight off my screen?

Yes, most barcode scanner apps and hardware scanners can read a barcode directly from a phone or monitor screen, though printing it usually scans more reliably.

Can I use the Barcode Generator on my phone?
