About the URL Shortener

Turns a long URL into a short link that redirects anyone who visits it to the original address.

People sharing a long, unwieldy link in a chat message or on social media use it to hand out something shorter and easier to read, while anyone tracking clicks on a shared link uses the visit count to see how much it's being used. It's one of many free developer tools on Toolapt, and like every tool here, it's free to use with no sign-up and no limit on how many times you run it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about the URL Shortener.

What does the URL Shortener do?

It takes a long URL and gives you back a short link that redirects anyone who visits it to the original address.

Is the URL Shortener free to use?

Yes. It's free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.

What happens to the link I submit?

The destination URL and the short code that points to it are stored on our server — that's what lets the short link keep working whenever someone visits it. Anyone who has the short link can visit it, the same as the original URL, and we count how many times it's been used. No account or personal details are required to create one.

Do short links expire?

A short link is created to keep redirecting for as long as the service runs it; there's no fixed expiration date built into the shortening process itself.

Can I choose my own short code?

No. A short code is generated automatically for each link — there's currently no option to pick a custom short code.

Can I use the URL Shortener on my phone?

Yes. The page is fully responsive and works on mobile, tablet and desktop browsers alike.

Does the URL Shortener have any limitations?

It's built for shortening ordinary web links; it doesn't support editing or deleting a link once created, or password-protecting a short link.
