FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about the Team and Group Randomizer.

What does the Team and Group Randomizer do?

It splits a list of names into a chosen number of groups, shuffled randomly and dealt out as evenly as possible.

Is the Team and Group Randomizer free to use?

Yes. It's free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.

Is my input safe when I use this tool?

Yes. Your list of names is processed entirely on your own device — nothing is sent to a server.

Is the shuffle cryptographically secure?

Yes. Names are shuffled using your browser's crypto.getRandomValues API, not Math.random() or another predictable formula.

How are the groups balanced?

The whole list is shuffled first, then names are dealt out one at a time into each group in turn, so no group ends up with more than one extra name compared to any other.

What's the minimum number of names or groups?

You need at least two names, and you can split them into anywhere from 2 up to 50 groups (no more groups than names).

Can I use the Team and Group Randomizer on my phone?

Yes. The page is fully responsive and works on mobile, tablet and desktop browsers alike.

Does the Team and Group Randomizer have any limitations?

It only balances group sizes by count, not by skill or any other attribute — it has no way to know anything about the people on your list beyond their names.
