About

About the PDF Editor

Opens any PDF right in your browser so you can type new text onto a page, draw freehand, highlight lines, add rectangles and images, and white out anything you want hidden — then saves your edits into the original file.

Office workers use it to fill in a form that has no fillable fields or fix a typo in a letter, teachers and students use it to mark up handouts and assignments, and anyone sending a document uses it to cover a phone number or account detail before sharing. It's one of many free PDF tools on Toolapt, and like every tool here, it's free to use with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you edit.

Filling in a flat form

Office workers and job seekers use the PDF Editor to type their details onto an application or registration form that was never made fillable, instead of printing it and writing by hand.

Fixing a typo before sending

Freelancers and small business owners cover a wrong date or amount on an invoice with white-out and type the correct value over it in a matching font.

Marking up a document

Teachers, students and reviewers highlight key passages, circle problems with the pen and add short notes to a handout, draft or assignment.

Hiding personal details

Anyone sharing a bank statement, ID scan or contract uses white-out to cover account numbers, addresses or signatures before forwarding it.

Adding a logo or stamp

Small teams place a company logo, a "PAID" stamp image or a photo onto an existing PDF page without opening a desktop design app.

3 worked examples

01

Typing onto a non-fillable form

Open application.pdf, keep the Text tool selected, click just after "Full name:" and type your name in 11 pt Helvetica. Repeat for each field, then click Save and download to get application-edited.pdf with the answers in place.

02

Correcting a wrong amount

On page 2 of invoice.pdf, drag a White-out box over "$1,250.00", switch to Text, click on the white box and type "$1,520.00" in bold — the old figure is hidden and the new one sits exactly where it was.

03

Highlighting and annotating a handout

Drag the Highlight tool across two key sentences, draw a red Rectangle around a diagram, and use Draw to circle a word — all three edits are saved into the PDF as part of the page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about the PDF Editor.

What does the PDF Editor do?

It lets you add text, freehand drawings, highlights, rectangles, white-out boxes and images to any page of a PDF, move and restyle them, and download the edited file.

Is the PDF Editor free?

Yes. It's completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark on the saved file and no limit on how many PDFs you edit.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is opened, rendered and saved entirely in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib, loaded from this site. Your file never leaves your device.

Can I edit the existing text in a PDF?

Not directly — a PDF stores text as positioned glyphs rather than editable paragraphs. To change existing words, drag a White-out box over them and type the new text on top with the Text tool, picking the font and size that matches.

Will the text I add be selectable and searchable?

Yes, for English and other Latin-alphabet text: it's saved as real text in Helvetica, Times or Courier. Text in other scripts, such as Bengali, Hindi, Arabic or Chinese, is saved as a sharp image of the text so it still looks exactly as typed, but it can't be selected or searched.

Does white-out permanently remove the content underneath?

No. White-out covers content visually, but the original text is still in the file and can be copied or extracted. For true redaction of sensitive data, flatten the edited PDF into images afterwards with the Flatten PDF tool.

Can I undo a mistake?

Yes. Click Undo or press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) to step back through your changes. You can also select any edit and press Delete to remove it.

Can I edit more than one page?

Yes. Use the arrows or type a page number to move between pages; edits on every page are kept and saved together in one download.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The editor is fully responsive and supports touch, so you can tap to place text, draw with your finger and drag edits around on a phone or tablet.

What are the limitations?

A password-protected PDF must be unlocked first with the Unlock PDF tool. The editor adds new content on top of pages — it can't reflow existing text, delete objects that are already in the file, or reorder pages (use Remove PDF Pages or Rotate PDF for that).
