About the BMI Calculator

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about the BMI Calculator.

What does the BMI Calculator do?

It calculates body mass index from your weight and height, shows which of the standard BMI categories the result falls into, and gives the healthy weight range for your exact height.

Is the BMI Calculator free to use?

Yes. It's free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.

Is my input safe when I use this tool?

Yes. Your weight and height are processed entirely on your own device — nothing is sent to a server.

What is considered a healthy BMI?

A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is classified as a healthy weight for most adults. The calculator shows this range converted into your own weight unit for the height you entered.

Is BMI accurate for athletes or very muscular people?

Not always — BMI only uses weight and height, so it can't tell muscle from fat. A very muscular person can show a higher BMI category despite having low body fat, which is a known limitation of the BMI formula itself, not this calculator.

What's the difference between BMI units?

The underlying formula is the same either way; the calculator just accepts your numbers in whichever unit system you're already using (kilograms/centimeters or pounds/feet+inches) and converts internally before calculating.

Can I use the BMI Calculator on my phone?

Yes. The page is fully responsive and works on mobile, tablet and desktop browsers alike.

Does the BMI Calculator have any limitations?

It's a screening number based only on weight and height, not a medical diagnosis. For a full health assessment, body composition and other factors matter too.
